Consider it a safe bet that any celebrity whose name routinely has the words "Kids & Family" following it is probably going to remain mostly off our pop culture radar. Still, some manage to work their way out of that niche and increasingly so Selena Gomez seems to be one of their number. Kudos to her team of publicists for arranging that series of photo ops that was called a romance. What? Too cynical? Here is our defense: the entire history of the entertainment industry.
Anyway, Biebering was a good move for her career and her name and face seem to be popping up more and more on the landscape. Of note to us (no surprise) is how she's been presenting herself and once again, we have to applaud the team members that are putting the package together. We rarely ever see her look bad. Granted, we don't love every detail of this dress. With such a stiff fabric, those wide straps seem a little heavy and we're not crazy about the way the eye is drawn directly to her stomach.
Still, she looks put together and appropriate for the event. A pretty girl in a pretty dress; uncomplicated and non-threatening - and we totally mean that as a compliment. This is the way a young starlet should dress when she's still in her teens. Not because of any prudery, but because it will help her transition into grownup roles if she shows a bit of sophistication early on. Look at Dakota Fanning, who's been dressing well for the last 3 years or so, just as she hit her mid-teens. Even though the dress isn't our favorite ever, she gets an IN from us for excellent strategic dressing.
